The first of the new 35m GTX116 series will go to an American buyer
Pershing announced the launch in Fano on February 7 of the GTX116, the first yacht in the brand’s new GTX range.
Pershing said in a statement that the yacht was destined for the US market, with design by Fulvio De Simoni, Pershing’s long-time designer-in-chief. The 35-metre yacht is one of the largest yachts launched by Pershing, second only to the 43-metre Pershing 140. The first 140 was sold to a Hong Kong buyer.
The first GTX116 was purchased by an American buyer who apparently plans to base the yacht, named Caffeine, in Miami.
Caffeine will live up to her name thanks to a Pershing-style propulsion system. The first GTX116 will be equipped with a triple water jet system paired to three MAN V12 2000 engines for a top speed of just over 35 knots and a cruising speed of nearly 30 knots. The standard engine option are three MAN V12 1800 units.
The new GTX borrows some of the design language of the Pershing 140, particularly at the bow. The shape is meant to evoke the luxury SUV automotive market. Pershing calls it the “SUY” or “Sport Utility Yacht”.
The GTX116 offers plenty of open-air space, with areas designed to be in direct contact with the water, matched with a five-cabin layout.
The yacht, with an LOA of 35 metres and a 7.7m beam, has 150sqm of outdoor space that is designed to connect closely to the water. The garage can accommodate a tender of over five metres, a jet ski and other toys. The beach club, measuring 39sqm, has a teak deck protected by an electro-hydraulic taffrail that connects the beach area with the swim platform, creating a huge space at the water’s edge.
The 40-square-meter sundeck, reached from the stern area via two outdoor stairways on either side of the yacht, contains the second helm station. It has large social spaces plus wet bar, and it is covered by carbon hard top.
At the bow, the GTX116 takes full use of the space provided by the reconfigured bow windows and superstructure design. The owner of Caffeine has opted for a jacuzzi in the bow, signalling the growing importance of the bow area to yacht owners.
